Black mold behind wardrobe: DIY or professional removal?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black mold I just found growing behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed it, probably because it’s been so humid lately and that wall is an exterior one. What’s the best way to deal with this myself, or should I just call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Based on your description, this is a serious situation that warrants professional intervention, not a DIY project. The presence of visible black mold, coupled with your children's respiratory symptoms (coughing is a classic indicator of mold exposure), means the issue has already impacted your family's health. In the UAE's high-humidity climate, especially with an exterior wall prone to condensation from year-round AC use, hidden mold growth is almost certainly more extensive than what is visible behind the wardrobe.

Attempting removal yourself is highly inadvisable. Disturbing the mold without proper containment, such as wiping it or moving the furniture, will aerosolize a massive number of toxic spores, contaminating your entire bedroom and HVAC system, drastically increasing inhalation exposure. Effective remediation requires industrial-grade HEPA air scrubbers to clean the air, negative air pressure containment chambers to isolate the work area, and specialized antimicrobial agents to treat the surfaces. Furthermore, the root cause—the moisture intrusion on the exterior wall—must be professionally diagnosed and resolved to prevent immediate recurrence.

For the health of your family and to ensure the job is done to Dubai Municipality's environmental health standards, you must contact a certified mold remediation company. I strongly recommend you call our team at Saniservice for an immediate professional inspection and remediation plan. Our certified experts use thermal imaging to map the full extent of the growth and will safely remove the contamination. Call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an assessment. Do not delay, as this is a significant health risk.
