Should we remove bedroom mold ourselves or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall. My wife has been waking up with a stuffy nose and headaches for the past month, and we're starting to get really worried. The patch is small but seems to be spreading. Is this something we can clean ourselves with bleach, or do we absolutely need to call a professional mold remediation company in Dubai?

Based on the description of a spreading patch on an interior wall and the associated health symptoms (stuffy nose, headaches), I strongly advise against a DIY remediation attempt using bleach. In the UAE's climate, interior mold growth is often a symptom of a hidden moisture issue, such as a small plumbing leak within the wall or condensation from the year-round AC system. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall and will only bleach the visible surface, leaving the root colony intact to continue growing and releasing spores.

The health symptoms your wife is experiencing are a significant red flag, indicating potential exposure to mycotoxins. Disturbing the mold without proper containment, negative air pressure, and HEPA filtration—as mandated by Dubai Municipality guidelines for professional remediation—can aerosolize these spores and drastically increase contamination throughout your bedroom and HVAC system, exacerbating the health risks.

For a situation involving health symptoms, spread, and a location on an interior wall (suggesting a hidden source), a professional inspection is absolutely necessary. Our certified inspectors at Saniservice use thermal imaging and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact moisture source invisible to the naked eye. We then execute a full remediation protocol following UAE standards, which includes containment, safe removal of affected materials, and HEPA vacuuming to ensure the problem is solved at its root.
