Is black mold behind furniture urgent for kids' cough?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it’s from a black spot I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed it, but with the humidity lately it seems to have gotten much worse. How urgent is it to get a professional mold removal company in, or is this something I can handle myself with a bleach spray this weekend?

The black spot you've described is a significant concern, especially given the recent symptoms in your children. In the UAE's high-humidity climate, exacerbated by constant air conditioning creating ideal conditions for condensation, mold growth behind furniture is extremely common and can develop rapidly. What you see is likely only the visible fruiting body; the actual fungal network (mycelia) may have penetrated deeper into the wall or backing material.

Attempting a DIY removal with bleach is strongly discouraged. Bleach is primarily water, which can feed the mold roots it doesn't reach. It also fails to address the underlying moisture source and can release a high volume of spores and harmful vapors into your indoor air during cleaning, potentially worsening respiratory issues. For children, who are more vulnerable to mycotoxins and allergens, this presents a clear health risk.

This situation warrants a professional inspection. Our certified technicians use moisture meters, thermal imaging, and borescopes to identify the full extent of the infestation and the precise moisture intrusion point. Remediation then involves advanced techniques like controlled containment with negative air pressure, HEPA vacuuming, and antimicrobial treatment to ensure complete removal and prevent recurrence, in full compliance with Dubai Municipality's public health and safety standards.

Given the urgency for your family's health, I recommend immediate action. Please call our experts at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive assessment and a safe, guaranteed remediation plan from Saniservice.
