Is AC mold in my bedroom a health risk?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom has been leaking a little water onto the carpet for maybe the last two weeks, but I just pulled the corner back and found a patch of black and green mold about the size of my hand underneath. I live in a high-rise in Jumeirah Lakes Towers and the humidity has been brutal lately. How urgent is it that I get this professionally cleaned, and should I be worried about my health sleeping in that room?

Based on my professional experience with mold inspection and remediation in Dubai, the presence of AC-related mold in your bedroom is a significant health risk that requires immediate attention. The black and green patch you've described is indicative of active growth, likely fueled by the constant moisture from the AC leak and our region's extreme humidity.

The primary concern is the continuous inhalation of mold spores while you sleep. This can lead to a range of health issues, from allergic reactions (sneezing, runny nose, red eyes) and asthma exacerbations to more severe respiratory infections and persistent headaches. In a confined space like a bedroom, the concentration of spores becomes much higher, increasing your exposure risk.

The climate in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, with its high humidity and reliance on year-round air conditioning, creates a perfect breeding ground for mold. AC units themselves can become contaminated and then spread spores throughout the room. Simply cleaning the visible patch on the carpet is insufficient; the underlying moisture problem must be fixed, and the extent of contamination within the AC unit and potentially the carpet underlay must be assessed by a professional. DIY attempts often disturb the mold, causing a much wider release of spores.

For your safety, I strongly recommend you cease using the AC in that room and seek a professional inspection and remediation service immediately. Our team at Saniservice is certified to handle such cases in accordance with Dubai Municipality guidelines. We can conduct a thorough assessment, identify the source within the AC system, and safely remove the contamination.
