Is mold from AC leak urgent to fix professionally?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom closet has been leaking a little for the last couple of weeks and now I’ve found patches of black and green fuzzy mold on the wall behind my clothes. It’s been so humid lately that I’m worried it’s spreading quickly. How urgent is it that I get a professional to deal with this, or can I handle it myself with cleaning products from the supermarket?

Based on my professional experience in the UAE, the situation you describe is urgent and requires immediate professional attention. The combination of an AC condensate leak and Dubai's high ambient humidity creates a perfect breeding ground for mold, allowing it to proliferate rapidly within wall cavities, often far beyond the visible patches.

The black and green fuzzy growth indicates active colonization. Attempting to clean this yourself with supermarket products is highly inadvisable. Superficial wiping will not address the root moisture problem or the hyphae (root structures) penetrating the porous wall material. Ineffective cleaning can also aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination to other areas of your home and potentially causing health issues.

Furthermore, Dubai Municipality has strict health and safety regulations pertaining to indoor air quality and microbial contamination in dwellings. A professional assessment is critical to determine the full extent of the damage, identify the precise species of mold (some, like Stachybotrys, require specific remediation protocols), and execute a compliant remediation plan. This involves containing the area, using HEPA filtration to capture spores, safely removing contaminated materials, and applying professional-grade biocides and sealants.

I strongly recommend you call a certified professional immediately. Our team at Saniservice specializes in exactly this scenario. We provide a comprehensive inspection, moisture mapping, and a certified remediation report, which is often required for landlord communications or insurance purposes. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an urgent assessment before the problem escalates further.
