How to control wardrobe humidity and prevent black speckles?« Back to Previous Page

My wardrobe in the master bedroom has started to get black speckles in the corners, especially on my leather bags and shoes. I think it's from the constant AC making everything feel a bit damp in there, even though the rest of the apartment in Jumeirah is fine. I’m worried it’s going to ruin more of my clothes. Besides cleaning it, what’s the best long-term solution to control the humidity inside the wardrobe to stop this from coming back?

The black speckles you're describing on your leather goods are a classic indicator of mold growth, a common issue in Dubai due to our high ambient humidity and the constant cooling from AC units, which creates significant condensation and localized dampness. The enclosed space of a wardrobe, especially on an exterior wall, is a prime microenvironment for this.

The immediate step is to have the affected items professionally cleaned and the mold properly remediated to prevent spore dispersal. For a long-term solution, humidity control is paramount. First, improve air circulation within the wardrobe. Avoid overpacking items and consider leaving the doors ajar for a few hours daily. Utilizing moisture-absorbing products like silica gel desiccant bags is a good start, but they require frequent reactivation in our climate.

For a more robust and permanent solution, I strongly recommend installing a dedicated low-wattage dehumidifier rod inside the wardrobe. These devices, designed specifically for enclosed spaces, gently heat the air to maintain a relative humidity below 60%, effectively eliminating the conditions mold requires to grow. This is far more effective and less labor-intensive than passive solutions.

Given that the mold has already established itself, a professional inspection is advisable to assess the extent and ensure the hidden surfaces within the wardrobe structure are not also contaminated. Our certified teams at Saniservice use thermal imaging and moisture meters to identify the precise source of the moisture and provide a comprehensive remediation and prevention plan.
