Can I remove black mold myself or need professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black speckles in the back of the bedroom wardrobe that shares a wall with the bathroom. It's gotten worse since the humidity spiked last month and the room has a damp feel to it even with the AC on. Is this something I can tackle myself with vinegar or a bleach solution from the supermarket, or do I need to call in a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Based on the symptoms you've described—black speckles in a wardrobe sharing a bathroom wall, a persistent damp feel, and a correlation with high humidity—this is a classic case of a moisture-driven mold issue, highly common in Dubai's climate. The constant use of AC can create significant temperature differentials, leading to condensation inside walls and closed spaces, which is the perfect breeding ground for mold.

While a small, surface-level patch on a non-porous material might be addressed with a dedicated fungicidal cleaner, your situation suggests a more systemic problem. The location indicates the mold is likely feeding on a persistent moisture source, possibly a minor plumbing leak, poor bathroom ventilation, or condensation within the wall cavity. Applying vinegar or bleach is a temporary, superficial fix. Bleach, in particular, is ineffective on porous surfaces like wood and drywall as it does not kill the roots (hyphae) and its high water content can actually feed the mold, causing it to return worse than before. More critically, DIY attempts can inadvertently agitate the colony, releasing a high concentration of spores into your living environment and exacerbating health risks.

For a case like this, a professional inspection is strongly advised. We use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to pinpoint the exact moisture source hidden behind walls. Remediation then involves isolating the area, using HEPA filtration to capture airborne spores, safely removing contaminated materials, and applying professional-grade, EPA-approved antimicrobial solutions to eliminate the colony at its root.

To properly diagnose and solve this problem, I recommend calling our specialists at Saniservice for a comprehensive inspection. You can reach us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com.
