Is black mold behind bed urgent for kids' health?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it might be from mold in their bedroom. I just pulled the head of my daughter's bed away from the wall and found a large patch of black mold behind it, probably from the AC unit's condensation. We've been in this Jumeirah villa for five years and never had this before. How urgent is this, do I need to call someone tonight or can it wait until tomorrow morning for a professional inspection?

Based on your description, this is an urgent situation that requires immediate attention, especially given the health symptoms and the presence of vulnerable individuals. The black mold you discovered is likely Stachybotrys chartarum, a toxigenic species that thrives in the consistently humid, condensation-rich environment created by Dubai's climate and year-round AC use. The condensation line from the AC unit is a very common source for such growth in UAE villas.

The coughing in your children is a primary health indicator of mold exposure, which can cause allergic reactions, respiratory irritation, and exacerbate asthma. Prolonged exposure to mycotoxins from this type of mold can lead to more severe health complications. Do not attempt to disturb or clean the mold yourself, as this will aerosolize the spores and significantly increase the inhalation risk for your family.

For the night, I recommend moving your children to a different, well-ventilated room and ensuring the affected bedroom is isolated with the door closed. While a full remediation cannot begin tonight, this is a serious case that warrants a professional inspection first thing in the morning.

Our certified team at Saniservice is equipped to conduct a comprehensive inspection, including air quality and surface sampling to identify the spore types and concentration levels, in full compliance with Dubai Municipality's environmental health standards. We will then execute a containment and remediation protocol to safely remove the hazard and identify the moisture source to prevent recurrence.
