Is black mold in bedroom urgent to remove?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, on the wall that faces the outside. It wasn't there during the last inspection, but with the recent humidity, it's gotten worse. My wife has been waking up with a stuffy nose and a sore throat for the past week. How urgent is it that we get this professionally removed, and should we be sleeping in another room until it's fixed?

Based on the details you've provided, the situation is indeed urgent and warrants immediate professional attention. The combination of visible black mold, its location on an exterior wall (indicating a potential moisture intrusion point), and the correlating health symptoms in your wife are significant red flags.

In Dubai's climate, high humidity and constant air conditioning create ideal conditions for mold growth, particularly in areas with poor ventilation or hidden condensation, like closets on exterior walls. The health effects you describe—stuffy nose and sore throat—are classic indicators of mold exposure, which can escalate to more severe respiratory issues, especially for those with allergies or asthma.

You should absolutely sleep in another room until the issue is resolved to minimize exposure. Do not attempt to remove it yourself, as disturbing the colony without proper containment can aerosolize the spores and significantly worsen indoor air quality and health risks.

The urgency lies in identifying and rectifying the source of moisture, which is likely a leak in the building envelope or condensation within the wall cavity. A professional inspection is critical. We use thermal imaging and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact source, followed by controlled remediation following UAE health and safety guidelines. This ensures the mold is removed correctly and the underlying moisture problem is solved to prevent recurrence.

For a situation like this, I strongly recommend contacting our team for a comprehensive inspection. Call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an assessment.
