Is black mold behind wardrobe dangerous for my kids?« Back to Previous Page
|
My kids have been coughing and I suspect it might be from the black fuzzy patches I just found behind our bedroom wardrobe in our Jumeirah villa. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed this, probably from all the humidity lately. I’m really worried about their health. What’s the safest and most effective way to get rid of this ourselves, or should I call a professional company right away?

Based on your description, the situation you're describing is a significant health concern, especially for children. The black, fuzzy patches behind the wardrobe are almost certainly a mold colony, and its location in a bedroom where your children sleep is particularly alarming.
In the UAE's humid climate, especially in coastal areas like Jumeirah, this is a common issue. The combination of year-round AC use (which can cause condensation when cold surfaces meet warm, humid air) and high ambient humidity creates a perfect breeding ground for mold behind large furniture pieces that restrict airflow. The mold releases microscopic spores and mycotoxins into the air, which are then inhaled. For children, whose respiratory systems are still developing, this constant exposure can directly cause or severely exacerbate chronic coughing, allergic reactions, asthma, and other respiratory illnesses. Attempting a DIY removal on a colony of this size is strongly discouraged. Disturbing the mold without proper containment will aerosolize a massive amount of spores, contaminating your entire bedroom and HVAC system, potentially making the problem far worse. Effective remediation requires professional-grade HEPA filtration, antimicrobial agents, and techniques to isolate the affected area to prevent cross-contamination. Given the health risks to your family, an immediate professional inspection is not just recommended, it is essential. Our certified inspectors can conduct air quality tests to identify the spore types and concentration levels, assess the full extent of the infestation (which often spreads deeper into walls), and execute a safe, complete remediation protocol in full compliance with Dubai Municipality's health and environmental standards. For the safety of your children, please contact our team immediately for a comprehensive assessment. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection. |
