Is black mold in bedroom dangerous for baby?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom in our Marina apartment has felt really damp for the last month, even with the AC on. I just pulled our king-sized bed away from the wall to change the sheets and found a bunch of black, speckled spots spreading from the corner near the window. My husband says it’s not a big deal, but I’m worried, especially with our baby sleeping in here with us.
How urgently do we need to get a professional to handle this, and is it dangerous to sleep in the room tonight?

Yes, black mold in a bedroom is particularly dangerous for a baby. Infants have developing respiratory and immune systems, making them significantly more vulnerable to the mycotoxins and allergens produced by mold. Exposure can lead to chronic respiratory issues like coughing and wheezing, skin irritations, and allergic reactions. In severe or prolonged cases, it can contribute to the development of asthma.
The conditions you describe are a textbook case for mold growth in Dubai. The persistent damp feeling indicates high humidity levels, which are exacerbated by our coastal climate. The location near the window is a classic source of condensation issues, where the warm, humid outside air meets the cooled glass and wall surfaces from your AC, creating the perfect damp environment for mold to thrive behind furniture. You need to treat this with urgency. I strongly recommend against sleeping in that room tonight. The act of moving the bed has likely disturbed the colony, releasing a high concentration of spores into the air you and your baby will breathe for several hours. Relocate to another room immediately. This is not a case for DIY cleaning. Improper remediation will aerosolize the spores and spread the contamination throughout the apartment. The source of the moisture must be professionally identified and addressed; otherwise, the mold will return. You require a certified professional inspection and remediation plan. Our teams at Saniservice are trained to Dubai Municipality standards for environmental health and use advanced equipment like thermal imaging to locate moisture and HEPA filtration to safely contain and remove the biohazard.
