Urgent mold issue or can I clean it myself?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed some small black spots appearing in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. I first saw them about three weeks ago after that unusually humid spell we had, and the area feels a bit damp. I'm worried it's spreading but I'm not sure how big of a deal this is.
Should I treat this as an urgent mold inspection situation or is it something I can handle myself with a cleaner first?

Based on the description of black spots in your closet appearing after a humid spell, this is a situation that warrants immediate attention. The dampness you feel is a critical indicator of an active moisture source, which is the primary catalyst for mold growth. In Dubai's climate, where high external humidity constantly battles with year-round air conditioning, condensation within poorly ventilated spaces like closets is extremely common. This creates the perfect environment for mold colonies to establish and spread, often into wall cavities where the problem is not visible.
While small, visible surface mold can sometimes be addressed with a dedicated fungicidal cleaner, your situation has several red flags. The persistent dampness suggests the moisture issue is not resolved, meaning any cleaning will be temporary at best. Furthermore, the fact that you store textiles there is a concern; mold can penetrate fabrics, making them very difficult to decontamate and posing a continued risk to your indoor air quality. For a proper resolution, a professional inspection is strongly advised. Our certified inspectors use thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to identify the exact source of the dampness—whether it's condensation, a hidden leak, or capillary rising damp. We then conduct air and surface sampling to identify the mold species and concentration, which is crucial for determining the correct remediation protocol as per UAE standards. Attempting a DIY clean on an active infestation often disturbs the spores, increasing airborne contamination. To properly diagnose the extent of the issue and receive a certified remediation plan, we recommend you contact our specialists for a comprehensive assessment.
