Can I remove wardrobe mold myself or need a pro?« Back to Previous Page

Our walk-in wardrobe in Jumeirah Park has had a really damp, earthy smell for the past couple of months that I can't seem to get rid of. I finally pulled everything out and found a bunch of black speckled mold on the back wall behind the shelves. We run the AC constantly, but I guess the humidity still got to it. Is this something I can tackle myself with vinegar or bleach, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Based on the conditions you've described in your Jumeirah Park home, I strongly advise against a DIY mold removal attempt and recommend a professional inspection and remediation. The persistent damp, earthy smell and visible growth on the wall indicate a potential moisture issue that goes beyond surface condensation, likely within the wall cavity itself.
The UAE's high humidity, especially during summer months, combined with year-round AC use, creates significant temperature differentials that lead to condensation in concealed spaces. This is a common issue in wardrobes on exterior walls. While surface cleaning with vinegar or bleach may temporarily remove visible stains, it will not address the root moisture problem or the non-visible hyphal fragments within the porous wall material. Ineffective DIY attempts can often aggravate the situation by disturbing the colony and releasing a higher concentration of spores into your living environment. Furthermore, professional remediation in Dubai adheres to strict guidelines, such as the Abu Dhabi Occupational Safety and Health Center Framework (OSHAD SF) and Dubai Municipality protocols, which govern containment, air filtration, and disposal to prevent cross-contamination. Our certified teams at Saniservice use moisture meters and thermal imaging to identify the exact source of the intrusion before employing industrial-grade HEPA filtration and EPA-approved antimicrobial solutions for a complete resolution.
