Black mold in bedroom closet: urgent for baby's room?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, on the wall that faces the outside. It wasn't there during the summer, but since the weather got more humid a few weeks ago, it's appeared and seems to be slowly spreading. My main concern is for our baby who sleeps in the room next door. How urgently do we need to get a professional to handle this, or is it something we can clean ourselves if we act now?

Based on your description of a black mold patch on an exterior wall that has appeared and spread with the recent increase in humidity, I would strongly recommend a professional inspection and remediation, especially given the presence of an infant in the adjacent room.

The climate in Dubai creates a perfect storm for mold growth. While we are known for heat, the high humidity levels, particularly during seasonal transitions and in coastal areas like Jumeirah, provide the moisture mold needs to thrive. The location on an exterior wall suggests a potential thermal bridging issue, where condensation forms on the cooler surface inside the closet due to the constant contrast between the outdoor heat and year-round air conditioning. This persistent, hidden moisture source is why a simple surface clean is often insufficient; the moisture problem must be identified and rectified to prevent recurrence.

For any visible, spreading mold, and especially with health concerns for vulnerable individuals like infants, professional assessment is crucial. We differentiate between surface contamination, which can sometimes be addressed with proper cleaning, and an actual infestation within the building materials, which requires professional remediation. Attempting to clean it yourself can inadvertently aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination to other areas, including your baby's room.

Our certified inspectors use tools like moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to pinpoint the exact source of moisture behind the wall. The remediation process then involves containment of the area to prevent cross-contamination, safe removal of affected materials, and application of professional-grade antimicrobial solutions.

For the safety of your family, I advise against a DIY approach. Please contact our team for a comprehensive inspection. Call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule a assessment.
