Black mold in Dubai closet: DIY clean or hire professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black, fuzzy spots in the back corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. It's on the wall and seems to be spreading onto a few of my jackets. I’m worried it’s been there a while and might be the reason my allergies have been acting up lately. What’s the most effective way to clean this myself, or is this a job for a professional mold removal company in Dubai?

Based on your description of black, fuzzy spots spreading from the wall to stored items, this is a significant contamination event that warrants immediate professional attention. The climate in Dubai, characterized by high humidity and continuous air conditioning use, creates ideal conditions for mold growth, particularly in enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces like closets where condensation can form on cooler walls.

Attempting a DIY clean is not advisable for several reasons. First, the mold has already colonized porous building materials (drywall/plaster) and personal items (jackets). Surface cleaning with household cleaners will not address the root infestation within the material. Second, improper cleaning techniques, such as scrubbing, will aerosolize a high concentration of spores and mycotoxins, drastically increasing your exposure and potentially contaminating your entire HVAC system and other areas of the home, exacerbating allergy symptoms. Third, without specialized equipment like HEPA air scrubbers and negative air containment, you cannot safely remove or prevent the cross-contamination of these hazardous particles.

In the UAE, professional mold remediation follows strict protocols for containment, removal, and disposal to protect occupant health and the building's integrity. For a case like this, we strongly recommend a professional inspection and remediation. Our certified experts at Saniservice can conduct a thorough assessment to determine the full extent of the contamination, identify the moisture source, and execute a complete remediation plan.
