How urgent is a mold inspection with a newborn in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet in our Jumeirah villa. It’s been incredibly humid the last few weeks and the smell is really musty when we open the closet doors. With a newborn at home, I'm starting to panic a bit. How urgent is it to get a professional mold inspection done here in Dubai, and is this something I should be dealing with within days, or is it okay to wait a couple of weeks?

Based on your description, this situation warrants a professional inspection within the next few days, not weeks. The presence of a musty odor is a significant indicator of active microbial growth, even if the visible patch seems small. The high humidity we've been experiencing in Dubai creates an ideal environment for mold proliferation, especially in enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces like closets.

With a newborn in the home, the urgency is elevated. Infants have developing respiratory and immune systems, making them more susceptible to the potential irritants and allergens released by mold colonies. The risk of exposure through airborne spores is a primary concern.

In the UAE, the constant use of air conditioning can contribute to the problem if units are not properly maintained, as they can become a source of condensation and spread contaminants. A certified inspection is crucial to identify the moisture source—whether it's a hidden leak, condensation, or rising damp—and to assess the full extent of the contamination, including within the wall cavity, which is often not visible.

I strongly recommend you contact a professional service like Saniservice immediately. Our certified experts use thermal imaging and borescopes to identify hidden moisture and mold, and we provide a detailed report with lab analysis to determine the spore types and concentrations. This is not a situation for DIY attempts, which can inadvertently spread spores throughout the home.
