AC mold came back after vinegar. DIY or professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our apartment in Jumeirah seems to be leaking a little, and now we’ve discovered a patch of black mold in the corner of the bedroom closet. I wiped it with vinegar, but it came back darker after just a couple of days. Is this something I can tackle myself with stronger cleaners, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

The recurrence of the mold after a vinegar cleaning is a significant indicator that this is not a surface-level issue you can manage yourself. Vinegar is a mild acid and may kill superficial mold, but it is entirely ineffective against the root system (hyphae) growing within porous materials like drywall, plaster, or the backing of your closet. The fact it returned darker suggests a robust and active colony.

In Dubai's climate, this is a critical concern. Our high humidity, combined with AC condensation leaks, creates a perfect incubator for mold. The leak from your AC unit is the primary moisture source that must be addressed first; without solving this, any cleaning is futile. The mold in your closet is likely just the visible tip of a larger problem, potentially spreading within the wall cavity.

DIY attempts with stronger chemicals, such as bleach, are strongly discouraged. They pose health risks from toxic fumes, can damage surfaces, and, like vinegar, often fail to address the hidden growth. More importantly, improper disturbance can aerosolize toxic mold spores, drastically increasing your indoor air pollution and exposure.

This situation requires a professional assessment. UAE regulations and best practices mandate containing the area to prevent cross-contamination, using industrial-grade HEPA filtration to clean the air, and applying specialized antimicrobial agents to eliminate the colony at its root. The AC system itself will likely require inspection and hygienization to prevent recurrence.

For a definitive solution, I recommend a certified inspection and remediation plan. Please contact our specialists at Saniservice for a thorough evaluation. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an assessment and protect your indoor air quality.
