Urgent to treat black mold in closet or wait?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a few small black spots growing in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. It's on the wall that faces the outside of the building. With the humidity starting to rise again, I'm worried it will spread quickly. How urgent is it to get a professional to look at this, or can it wait a couple of weeks?

Based on your description, this situation warrants prompt professional attention and should not be delayed for weeks. The presence of small black spots on an exterior wall in a closet is a classic indicator of a mold colony, likely fueled by condensation. In Dubai's climate, where high external humidity meets the constant cooling of year-round air conditioning, the temperature differential on exterior walls creates a perfect environment for condensation and subsequent mold growth. Stored items like winter clothes provide additional cellulose material for the mold to consume.

What you see on the surface is often just the "bloom" of a larger colony that may be growing within the wall cavity itself. Delaying action allows the colony to mature and spread, potentially compromising the structural integrity of the drywall and contaminating a wider area with spores, which can affect indoor air quality and potentially cause health issues.

Under the Dubai Municipality's public health and safety regulations, maintaining a property free from dampness and mold growth is a landlord's responsibility for tenant health and building integrity. A certified inspection is crucial to identify the moisture source—whether it's a minor condensation issue or a more serious leak—and to assess the full extent of the contamination.

I strongly recommend you contact a professional immediately for a comprehensive assessment. Our certified team at Saniservice uses thermal imaging and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact cause and extent of the problem, which is essential for effective remediation. Please do not attempt to clean it with bleach, as this will only temporarily remove the surface discoloration and can exacerbate the problem by adding moisture.

For immediate consultation and to schedule an inspection, please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. Addressing this now will prevent a much larger and more costly remediation project in the future.
