Can I clean this AC mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom closet has been leaking a little for a couple of months, and now I’ve found a patch of black and greenish mold on the back wall and some of our shoes. I wiped it with vinegar, but the smell is still really strong and it seems to be spreading. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call in a professional mold removal company?

Based on the symptoms you've described, this is not a situation for DIY remediation and requires immediate professional attention. The persistent musty odor after cleaning is a significant red flag, indicating that the mold colony is active and has likely penetrated the porous building materials, such as the drywall or concrete block. The proximity to your AC unit, which has been leaking for months, points to a sustained moisture source, which is the primary catalyst for mold growth in Dubai's humid climate.

Vinegar and other consumer-grade cleaners are ineffective against established colonies and only address surface-level contamination. The leak itself suggests a potential issue with the AC drain line or condensate pump, which needs to be diagnosed and repaired by an HVAC technician to prevent recurrence.

In the UAE, improper handling can violate Dubai Municipality public health guidelines, as uncontrolled dispersion of spores during cleaning can contaminate other areas of your home. A certified professional from a company like Saniservice will first conduct a thorough inspection, including moisture mapping and possibly air quality testing, to determine the full extent of the contamination. The remediation process involves containing the area with physical barriers and negative air pressure, safely removing and disposing of affected porous materials (like the damaged wall section and contaminated shoes), and using industrial-grade HEPA filtration and EPA-approved antimicrobial agents to eradicate the growth at its source.

For a definitive solution and to ensure your family's health, I strongly recommend you call in a professional. Contact Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive inspection and remediation plan.
