Should I get a mold inspection for my Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Jumeirah for 2 years and just noticed some black speckles in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. Ever since the heavy fog a few weeks ago, my youngest son has been having a persistent runny nose and a cough that just won't go away, and I'm starting to worry it's connected. Is there a recommended company that does a really thorough mold inspection, and should I be getting an air quality test done for the whole house, or just that one room?

Based on your description of the situation in your Jumeirah villa, I strongly recommend a comprehensive professional mold inspection. The black speckles in your closet are a clear visual indicator of a mold colony, which is a significant concern. The timing of your son's persistent respiratory symptoms—a runny nose and cough that began after a period of heavy fog—is highly suggestive of a connection to poor indoor air quality. Mold spores become aerosolized and are easily inhaled, often causing such allergic reactions.

In Dubai's climate, this is a common issue. The combination of high external humidity, especially during foggy and rainy periods, and the constant use of air conditioning creates a perfect environment for condensation and mold growth within building interiors. The closet is a classic problem area due to lack of air circulation.

You should not just inspect the one room. The mold in the closet is a symptom of a moisture issue that could be affecting wall cavities, the AC system, or other hidden areas of the villa. A full indoor air quality (IAQ) test is crucial to assess the concentration of airborne spores throughout the living space and identify the full extent of the contamination.

For a thorough investigation, I recommend contacting Saniservice. Their certified inspectors use advanced tools like thermal imaging cameras and borescopes to identify hidden moisture and mold, followed by precise air and surface sampling to provide a definitive analysis and remediation plan. For immediate assistance, you can call them at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. Do not attempt to disturb the area yourself, as this can exacerbate the spore count and your family's exposure.
