Black mold behind wardrobe causing child's cough? DIY or pro?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived in our villa in Al Barsha for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black, fuzzy spots spreading on the wall behind our wardrobe. I'm worried because my youngest has been having a stuffy nose and a cough that won't go away for the last month. What's the best way to deal with this in Dubai – should I call a professional cleaning company or is there a specific product I can get from ACE to handle it myself?

Based on your description, this is a serious situation that requires professional attention, not a DIY solution. The black, fuzzy growth behind the wardrobe is almost certainly microbial growth, and its correlation with your child's persistent respiratory symptoms is a major red flag.

In Dubai's climate, this is a common issue. The year-round air conditioning creates significant temperature differentials between cool walls and the warm, humid air, leading to condensation in hidden areas like behind furniture. This trapped moisture provides the perfect environment for mold spores, which are ever-present in the air, to colonize.

Attempting to clean this yourself with a product from ACE is highly inadvisable. Agitating the mold without proper containment will aerosolize a high volume of spores and mycotoxins throughout your villa's air, potentially exacerbating your child's health issues and contaminating other areas. Over-the-counter sprays only bleach the visible growth on the surface but do not address the root moisture problem or the hyphae (root system) embedded within the wall.

The only safe and effective course of action is a professional inspection and remediation. We follow strict UAE environmental guidelines to contain the area, use HEPA filtration to clean the air, safely remove contaminated materials, and apply specialized antimicrobial agents. Most critically, we will identify and resolve the source of moisture to prevent recurrence.
