Can I remove mold myself after Dubai rains or call pro?« Back to Previous Page

Our villa in Mirdif has been so humid since the heavy rains a few weeks ago. I just pulled a large storage box away from the wall in the guest room and found a patch of black and green mold about the size of a dinner plate on the back of the wall. Is this something I can safely clean myself with bleach or vinegar, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Based on the conditions you've described in your Mirdif villa, I strongly advise against attempting to clean this yourself and recommend a professional inspection and remediation. The combination of the recent heavy rains, the high humidity, and the size of the colony (a dinner plate is a significant growth) indicates a serious moisture issue that DIY methods will not resolve.

The visible mold on the wall surface is likely just the tip of the iceberg; the moisture has almost certainly penetrated the wall cavity, providing a perfect breeding ground for mold within the structure itself. Applying bleach or vinegar only addresses the surface discoloration and can actually aggravate the problem by releasing a high concentration of spores into the air without killing the root system. More critically, it does nothing to address the underlying moisture source, guaranteeing the mold will return.

Here in Dubai, our year-round reliance on AC and the high ambient humidity create constant condensation risks, especially after rain events when building materials are saturated. Proper remediation requires not only the safe removal of contaminated materials but also the use of industrial-grade HEPA air scrubbers to purify the air and professional dehumidifiers to structurally dry the area, which is crucial to preventing recurrence.

For a colony of this size and given the potential for hidden damage, a professional assessment is essential. Our certified inspectors at Saniservice can conduct a thorough investigation, including moisture mapping and air quality testing, to determine the full extent of the problem and provide a definitive solution.
