Should I clean mold myself or call a professional in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our Jumeirah villa seems to be leaking a bit of water into the closet in the master bedroom, and now I'm seeing these small black spots on the back wall and on a couple of leather handbags stored in there. It's been getting worse over the last month and the room has a damp smell. Is this something I can clean myself with bleach or vinegar, or do I need to call a professional mold remediation company here in Dubai?

Based on the symptoms you've described—water leakage, persistent damp smell, and visible black spots on both porous (wall) and semi-porous (leather) materials—this is a situation that warrants a professional inspection and remediation. The climate in Dubai, with its high humidity and year-round reliance on AC systems, creates a perfect environment for mold growth, especially when a moisture source like a condensate leak is present.

Attempting a DIY cleanup with bleach or vinegar is strongly discouraged. These are surface-level treatments that do not address the root moisture problem or the hyphae (root system) of the mold growing within the wall cavity. Bleach can actually aggravate the situation by releasing harmful spores and vapors and is ineffective on porous surfaces. Furthermore, improper handling can cross-contaminate other areas of your villa.

UAE regulations and best practices, particularly in a high-value area like Jumeirah, emphasize thorough remediation to protect property and occupant health. This involves identifying and rectifying the AC leak, isolating the affected area, using HEPA filtration to capture airborne spores, and applying professional-grade antimicrobial agents to eliminate the colony at its source.

For a confirmed and recurring issue like this, I recommend you call a professional. Our certified team at Saniservice can conduct a comprehensive inspection, including moisture mapping and air quality testing, to determine the full extent of the problem and provide a definitive solution. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an assessment.
