Is urgent mold remediation needed for my Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks and I'm starting to worry it's not just a cold. I just pulled out our winter clothes from the storage cupboard under the stairs and found a bunch of jackets with black fuzzy spots on them, and the whole space smells damp. This is in our villa in Mirdif.
How urgent is it that I get a professional mold remediation company out here, or is this something I can handle myself with a cleaner from Ace first?

Based on your description, this is a situation that warrants immediate professional attention. The combination of visible black mold growth on porous materials like clothing and a persistent damp odor indicates an active and likely established mold colony within the storage cupboard. Given that this is a confined space in a Mirdif villa, the spores can easily become airborne and migrate into your main living areas through the HVAC system, which is a significant concern with your children's respiratory symptoms.
The humid Dubai climate, combined with year-round air conditioning, creates ideal conditions for mold growth in poorly ventilated spaces like under-stair cupboards. Condensation from AC ducts or a minor, unnoticed leak could be the moisture source. Attempting to clean this yourself with a generic cleaner is strongly discouraged. Disturbing the mold without proper containment will aerosolize the spores, drastically increasing the airborne concentration your family breathes. Furthermore, cleaning the surface of the jackets does not address the root moisture problem or the spores embedded within the structure and other contents. In accordance with UAE best practices for environmental health, a certified inspection is crucial. We use specialized equipment like moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to identify the exact moisture source and borescopes to assess the extent of growth within wall cavities. Air and surface sampling can identify the mold species and spore concentration levels to guide the remediation protocol. For the health of your family, I recommend you cease use of the area immediately and contact a professional. Our team at Saniservice is certified in mold remediation and can provide a thorough assessment and solution.
