Urgent AC Leak and Black Mold in Bedroom?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle seems to be leaking a little, and now I’ve found these dark blackish-green spots spreading on the wall behind the bedroom wardrobe. It’s been there for maybe a couple of weeks but it’s definitely getting bigger, and my throat has been feeling a bit irritated. How urgent is it that I get a professional to deal with this, or can I handle it myself with bleach?

Based on your description, this situation requires immediate professional attention and should not be handled with bleach. The dark blackish-green spots spreading from an AC leak are highly indicative of active mold growth, a serious concern in Dubai's climate where high humidity and constant AC use create ideal conditions for proliferation.

The throat irritation you're experiencing is a significant red flag, likely caused by mycotoxins and spores being aerosolized by the AC system and circulated throughout your apartment. Bleach is a surface-level disinfectant that is ineffective on porous materials like drywall and can actually aggravate the problem by releasing more spores into the air without addressing the root moisture source.

In the UAE, AC condensation leaks are a primary cause of indoor mold. The situation behind the wardrobe is particularly concerning as it is a concealed space, meaning the growth is likely far more extensive than what is visible. A full professional inspection, including moisture mapping and air quality testing, is critical to assess the full scope of contamination.

For a situation involving health symptoms and a spreading infestation, we strongly advise against a DIY approach. Our certified technicians at Saniservice are equipped with specialized HEPA containment systems, antimicrobial agents, and industrial dehumidifiers to safely remediate the mold and identify the root cause of the AC leak to prevent recurrence.

Do not delay. For a certified inspection and remediation plan, please contact our experts immediately at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com.
