Professional needed for bedroom closet mold in humid villa?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store luggage. It’s been really humid lately and I’m worried it’s spread behind the walls. Should I just try to clean it myself with bleach, or is this something where I absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company, and if so, what’s a rough cost I should expect for a job like this?

Based on your description of a Jumeirah villa and the current high humidity, this is a situation I strongly advise against handling yourself. Bleach is an ineffective and potentially hazardous solution for porous surfaces like drywall, as it only bleaches the surface mold while leaving the root structure intact and can release harmful fumes, especially in an enclosed space.

The presence of visible mold in the closet corner is a significant indicator of a moisture issue. In Dubai's climate, this is often caused by condensation from year-round AC operation, a small plumbing leak, or capillary action drawing moisture from the saturated exterior grounds. Given the villa's construction and the location, it is highly probable the mold has proliferated within the wall cavity, which you cannot address with surface cleaning. Disturbing it without proper containment protocols will aerosolize spores and contaminate other areas of your home.

A professional inspection is absolutely necessary. We would conduct a thorough assessment using moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, and air/surface sampling to determine the full extent of the contamination and identify the precise moisture source. Remediation involves isolating the area with negative air pressure, safely removing affected porous materials, HEPA vacuuming, and applying professional-grade antimicrobial solutions.

For a localized issue in a closet, assuming the moisture source is identified and fixed, you could be looking at a cost ranging from AED 1,500 to AED 4,000 for a complete professional remediation.
