Can I clean apartment shower mold myself or call professional?« Back to Previous Page

My bathroom in my Jumeirah apartment has had this musty smell for weeks, and I just discovered black mold spots all along the bottom of the wall where the shower is. It’s been worse since the humidity really kicked in last month. Is this something I can clean myself with bleach from the supermarket, or do I need to call a professional cleaning company here in Dubai?

While discovering mold in your Jumeirah bathroom is a common issue due to our high humidity and constant AC use, it requires careful attention. For small, superficial spots (less than 10 sq. ft.), a thorough cleaning with a dedicated fungicidal cleaner, not household bleach, can be attempted. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces like grout and drywall, as it only bleaches the surface mold while leaving the roots intact, leading to rapid regrowth.

However, your description of a persistent musty odor and growth along the shower wall base is a significant red flag. This often indicates hidden moisture problems within the wall cavity, possibly from a leaking pipe or water seepage from the shower pan. The humid Dubai climate exacerbates this, creating a perfect environment for mold colonies to thrive unseen.

Attempting to clean this yourself risks inadequate remediation and spreading spores. Furthermore, improper handling can violate Dubai Municipality's health and safety standards for habitable buildings, especially if cross-contamination occurs.

For a case like yours, a professional inspection is strongly advised. We use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to identify the hidden source of moisture. Saniservice’s certified technicians are trained in UAE-approved remediation protocols to contain the area, remove contaminated materials safely, and apply industrial-grade antimicrobial solutions to ensure the mold is eradicated at its source.

For a proper assessment and to prevent health risks and structural damage, it is best to call our experts. Contact Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a comprehensive inspection and solution tailored to Dubai's unique climate.
