Should I remove this black mold myself or call a pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which shares a wall with the bathroom. It’s been humid lately and I’m worried it’s spreading because my allergies have been acting up. Is this a job I can handle myself with bleach from the supermarket, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company in Dubai, and if so, what’s a realistic cost for a small area like this?

Based on your description, I strongly recommend against a DIY bleach treatment and advise you to call a professional for an inspection. In Dubai's climate, where high humidity and constant AC use create ideal conditions for mold, a visible patch in a closet often indicates a more significant underlying moisture issue, potentially from a small plumbing leak in the adjacent bathroom wall or condensation within the AC system.

Bleach is a superficial solution. It will remove the visible discoloration on non-porous surfaces but will not address the root moisture problem or effectively kill the mold hyphae (roots) penetrating porous materials like drywall or wood. Furthermore, improper DIY attempts can aerosolize spores, significantly increasing your exposure and exacerbating allergy symptoms, which you are already experiencing.

Adhering to UAE standards for environmental safety, a certified professional will first conduct a thorough inspection, including moisture mapping and possibly air quality testing, to identify the exact moisture source and the full extent of the contamination. Remediation involves isolating the area, using HEPA filtration to capture spores, safely removing affected materials, and applying EPA-approved biocides designed to eliminate the organism at its root, not just bleach it. Finally, the moisture source must be rectified to prevent recurrence.

For a small, contained area like a closet, a professional remediation cost can realistically range from AED 1,500 to AED 3,500, depending on the investigation required to find the moisture source. Given your health symptoms and the potential for hidden growth, this is a prudent investment. I recommend you contact Saniservice for a definitive assessment.
