Can I clean black mold from my AC with bleach?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom closet has been leaking a bit for the last few weeks, and now I’m seeing these fuzzy black spots all over the back wall and on some of my shoes. The smell is really musty and I’m worried it’s spreading. Is this something I can clean myself with bleach from Choithram’s, or do I need to call one of those professional mold removal companies?

Based on your description, this is a serious mold contamination that requires professional intervention, not a DIY bleach cleaning. The fuzzy black spots and musty odor indicate active growth, likely exacerbated by Dubai's high humidity and the constant condensation from your AC unit.

Bleach is a surface-level disinfectant ineffective on porous materials like drywall and shoe leather. It contains up to 90% water, which can actually feed the mold roots (hyphae) deep within the material, causing the problem to rebound worse than before. Furthermore, disturbing the mold by scrubbing can aerosolize toxic spores, spreading the contamination throughout your bedroom and HVAC system, posing a significant health risk.

In the UAE, improper handling of mold can violate public health and housing regulations, especially in rented properties. The situation you've described—a leaking AC causing structural damage and microbial growth—is a classic case where professional assessment is critical.

A certified inspector will conduct air and surface sampling to identify the species and toxicity level, then contain the area with negative air pressure to prevent cross-contamination. They use industrial-grade HEPA filtration and antimicrobial agents specifically designed to neutralize mold at its root, followed by a hygienization process to ensure the space is safe.

For a proper inspection and remediation protocol, I strongly recommend you contact our specialists at Saniservice. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an immediate assessment.
