What is black mold in my closet and who treats it?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind all the clothes. It's on the wall that faces the outside of our villa in Mirdif. I’m worried it’s from the recent humidity and might be making us sick. What’s the best way to get this properly treated and who should I call for a reliable inspection?

The black spots you've described in your master bedroom closet are highly indicative of a mold colony, likely Stachybotrys chartarum (often called "black mold") or more commonly in our region, Aspergillus niger. This growth is a direct result of the specific environmental conditions in Dubai, particularly the high humidity levels that lead to condensation on cooler surfaces. The wall facing the exterior of your villa in Mirdif is a classic problem area; the temperature difference between the air-conditioned interior and the hot, humid outside air creates a "cold bridge," leading to condensation within the wall cavity, especially when the closet is packed with clothes that restrict airflow.

This is a serious concern. Prolonged exposure to mycotoxins and spores from such growths can lead to significant health issues, including allergic reactions, respiratory problems, and chronic sinusitis. Due to the location within a wall cavity, this is not a surface-level issue you can clean yourself. Disturbing it incorrectly will aerosolize spores and contaminate your entire home.

For a reliable inspection, you must contact a professional environmental company. In the UAE, proper remediation is governed by strict standards like Dubai Municipality's guidelines for healthy buildings. A certified inspector will conduct a thorough assessment, including moisture mapping and air quality testing, to determine the full extent of the infestation and the root moisture source.

For professional diagnosis and a certified remediation plan, I strongly recommend you contact our specialists at Saniservice. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. Our team is certified to handle such cases in full compliance with local regulations, ensuring the mold is safely removed and the moisture source is permanently addressed to prevent recurrence.
