Should I worry about black spots on my damp wall?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of small black spots appearing on the back wall of our master bedroom closet in Jumeirah. It's on the wall that faces the outside, and the room always feels a bit damp even with the AC running. Is this something I need to get looked at immediately, or can it wait a couple of weeks until my schedule clears up?

Based on your description, you should absolutely have this inspected immediately and not wait a few weeks. The combination of visible black spots, a persistent damp feel, and the wall's location facing the exterior in Jumeirah is highly indicative of active mold growth.

The dampness you feel, despite AC use, is a critical red flag. In Dubai's climate, the extreme external humidity constantly battles with our cooled indoor environments. This often leads to condensation within wall cavities, especially on cooler exterior-facing walls, creating the perfect breeding ground for mold. The small black spots are likely the visible fruiting bodies of a larger, hidden colony within the drywall or behind it.

Mold remediation in the UAE, particularly in Dubai, is governed by strict hygiene and public health standards. DIY cleaning is strongly discouraged as it often disturbs the spores, causing them to become airborne and spread throughout your home, potentially leading to health issues and a much larger, more expensive contamination problem.

A professional inspection is required to determine the moisture source (likely a condensation issue or a minor external water intrusion), identify the mold species, and assess the extent of the infestation. We use specialized tools like moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, and air sampling to do this accurately.

For a case like this in the UAE, I strongly recommend you contact a certified professional. Saniservice provides comprehensive mold inspection and testing services in line with Dubai Municipality standards. They can be reached at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or hello@saniservice.com to schedule a diagnostic visit. Addressing this promptly will protect your family's health and your property's integrity.
