How urgent is black mold treatment for cough and sleep?« Back to Previous Page

Our bedroom in our Mirdif villa has had a damp, earthy smell ever since the heavy rains in February. I just pulled our bed away from the wall to find a huge patch of black mold hidden behind it, and now my husband has developed a persistent cough that gets worse at night. How urgent is it that we get this professionally treated, and should we be sleeping in another room starting tonight?

Based on the symptoms you've described and the visible mold growth, this is an extremely urgent situation that requires immediate action. The damp, earthy smell is a classic indicator of active microbial growth, and the hidden black patch suggests a significant colony has established itself. Your husband's persistent nocturnal cough is a strong clinical indicator of exposure to mold spores and mycotoxins, which are particularly concentrated in the still air of a bedroom overnight.

The recent heavy rains in Dubai are a common catalyst. They can lead to water intrusion in villas, and when combined with our high ambient humidity and the constant use of air conditioning, they create a perfect environment for mold proliferation behind furniture and within wall cavities.

You should relocate to another room starting tonight. Continued exposure, especially during sleep, will exacerbate respiratory symptoms and could lead to more severe health issues like chronic sinusitis or allergic bronchopulmonary mycosis. Do not attempt to clean the mold yourself, as disturbing it will aerosolize a high concentration of spores throughout the room.

Under the Dubai Municipality's public health and safety regulations, properties must be free of conditions that cause unhealthy habitation, which includes pervasive mold growth. This necessitates a professional inspection and remediation process.

I strongly recommend you contact a certified professional immediately. Our team at Saniservice conducts comprehensive inspections, including moisture mapping and air quality testing, to identify the full extent of the contamination and its moisture source. The remediation process involves containment, advanced filtration, and hygienization to ensure the environment is safe and healthy. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an emergency assessment. Do not delay.
