Can I clean these black dots myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a cluster of black, speckled dots in the corner of our master bedroom closet, right on the wall. It’s been more humid than usual lately and that corner always feels a bit damp. My wife is really worried and wants to call a professional immediately. Is this something I can safely clean myself with bleach or vinegar, or is it a sign of a bigger problem that needs an expert?

Based on your description, this is a classic case of mold growth, likely Stachybotrys chartarum (true "black mold") or more commonly Aspergillus niger, both of which are prevalent in the UAE's high-humidity climate. The dampness you describe is the critical factor; mold is a symptom of a moisture problem.

Attempting a DIY clean with bleach or vinegar is strongly discouraged. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall, as it only bleaches the surface pigment without killing the root system. Vinegar can kill some surface mold but does not address the underlying moisture issue, guaranteeing rapid regrowth. More critically, disturbing the colony without proper containment and PPE can aerosolize toxic mycotoxins and spores, significantly worsening indoor air quality and potential health risks.

In Dubai, the combination of high ambient humidity and year-round AC use creates perfect conditions for condensation within wall cavities, especially in poorly insulated exterior corners. This indicates a potential hidden problem within the wall that a surface clean cannot fix.

For a confirmed, persistent cluster like this, a professional inspection is mandatory. We use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to pinpoint the exact moisture source (e.g., condensation, capillary rise, or a hidden leak) and air sampling to identify the spore type and concentration. Remediation then involves source elimination, proper containment, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial treatment of affected materials.

Do not risk your health or allow the problem to escalate. For a definitive diagnosis and certified remediation protocol per UAE standards, contact our specialists at Saniservice. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an immediate assessment.
