Black mold under carpet in Dubai: DIY or professional?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle has been making us all cough, and I just pulled back the corner of the bedroom carpet and found a bunch of black spots underneath. It’s been extra humid lately and I’m worried it’s spread behind the walls. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach and a dehumidifier, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold inspection company here in Dubai?

Based on your description of black spots under the carpet in JVC and the associated coughing, you are absolutely dealing with a situation that requires a professional mold inspection. The combination of visible growth and health symptoms is a significant red flag.

In Dubai's climate, with its extreme humidity and year-round reliance on AC systems, hidden mold growth within wall cavities and under flooring is extremely common. The AC unit itself could be both a contributor (if there is a condensate leak or internal contamination) and a vector for spreading spores throughout your apartment every time it turns on. Using bleach is strongly discouraged; it is ineffective on porous surfaces like carpet backing and concrete subfloor, and its high water content can actually feed further mold growth. A dehumidifier is a good supportive tool but will not address the established colonies.

UAE regulations, particularly from Dubai Municipality, have strict guidelines for indoor air quality and mold remediation to ensure it is handled safely and effectively, preventing cross-contamination. A DIY approach risks violating these standards and significantly exacerbating the problem.

We strongly recommend you cease use of the affected room and contact a certified professional immediately. Our team at Saniservice specializes in comprehensive mold inspections, including advanced moisture mapping and air quality testing to determine the full extent of the infestation behind walls and under floors. We provide a detailed report and a certified remediation plan. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an urgent assessment.
