AC mold behind wardrobe: DIY or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

Our AC in the bedroom has been leaking a bit for the last couple of weeks, and now we’re seeing these black spots spreading on the wall behind the wardrobe. With the humidity lately, it’s gotten worse really fast and I’m worried about my son’s allergies. For a mold problem like this in a villa in Jumeirah, is this something I can handle myself with cleaners from ACE, or should I just call a professional company right away?

That black spot spread indicates active mold growth, which is common when an AC leak creates constant dampness, especially in our humid climate. With your son's allergies involved, DIY is not advisable.

Using surface cleaners from ACE might temporarily lighten the stains, but it won't address the root cause: moisture trapped behind the wardrobe and likely within the wall cavity. In Dubai's conditions, mold can penetrate porous materials like drywall and plaster rapidly. Without proper containment during cleaning, you risk dispersing a high concentration of spores into the bedroom air, which can significantly aggravate allergy symptoms.

For a situation involving a water leak, visible spreading, and a susceptible individual, a professional inspection is warranted. They will identify the exact moisture source, assess the extent of hidden growth behind the wall, and perform remediation that includes containment, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial treatment to properly resolve the issue and prevent recurrence. For a confirmed mold problem linked to health concerns, calling a pro is the safest course of action.
