Serious mold in Dubai villa: professional removal or DIY product?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a huge patch of black mold in the back of the walk-in wardrobe, probably from a slow leak in the en-suite bathroom. The smell is really musty and it’s starting to spread onto some of our clothes. What’s the most effective way to handle serious mold removal here in Dubai, and should I hire a professional company or is there a specific product I can get from ACE that actually works?

For a large, spreading patch caused by a suspected leak, professional remediation is strongly recommended. This is not a surface-level issue; the mould you see is likely just the fruiting body, with a larger root network (hyphae) growing deep into the building materials like drywall or plaster. DIY products from hardware stores are only effective on surface mould on non-porous materials like tiles.

The humid Dubai climate means mould can regrow rapidly if the moisture source isn't found and fixed and if spores aren't properly contained during removal. A professional team will first conduct a moisture survey to identify the leak's exact source, then set up containment barriers with negative air pressure to prevent spores from spreading to other parts of your villa during the removal process. They use industrial-grade HEPA filtration to clean the air and will safely remove and dispose of contaminated porous materials.

After removal, applying a preventative coating to the treated area is crucial to resist future growth in our high-humidity environment. For a case of this severity, a DIY approach risks inadequate containment, leading to cross-contamination and potential health issues, and will likely not address the root cause, resulting in a recurring problem.
