Should I remove Mirdif bedroom mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived in our Mirdif villa for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet. It’s on the wall behind the clothes and seems worse since the recent humidity. What's the most effective way to handle this myself, or is it better to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

For a small patch in Mirdif (under one square meter), DIY is often possible. Dubai's high humidity, especially now, means you must also fix the moisture source—this is likely condensation from the exterior wall or a small leak. Wear an N95 mask, gloves, and safety glasses. Scrub the area with a detergent solution, not just bleach, which only removes the colour. Dry it completely with a fan.

If the mold returns quickly, covers a larger area, is in your HVAC system, or if anyone has respiratory issues, call a professional. Proper remediation involves containment to prevent spores spreading and industrial dehumidifiers to achieve a dry state, which is difficult in our climate. A reputable company with a microbiology lab can identify the species and provide a post-remediation verification test, the only way to confirm it's truly resolved.
