How to quickly test and treat bedroom mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black, speckled spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe. It's on the wall that faces the outside, and with all the humidity lately, it seems to be getting worse. I'm really worried about our health, especially for our young son who sleeps in there. What's the fastest way to get this properly tested and treated in Dubai, and should we be looking for a specific type of professional?

Black mould in Dubai's climate is a common but serious concern, especially in bedrooms with exterior walls prone to condensation from year-round AC use. The fastest and most accurate way to identify it is through professional surface or air sampling, with samples sent to a Dubai Central Lab or an accredited microbiology lab for species identification—this is critical as not all black mould is the toxic Stachybotrys type.

For treatment, do not attempt to clean significant growth yourself with bleach, as this can aerosolize spores. A professional remediation company should be engaged to safely contain the area, remove the contaminated materials (like the affected section of drywall), and HEPA-vacuum the space. The root cause must be addressed; this is almost always excess moisture. An inspection should identify if it's due to a leaking pipe, capillary rise from the ground, or, most commonly in Dubai, thermal bridging and condensation on the cold wall behind the wardrobe.

Move the furniture away from the wall immediately to improve air circulation. For your son's health, consider temporarily relocating him until the mould is assessed, as exposure can exacerbate allergies and asthma. Look for a provider with certified mould remediation credentials (like IICRC) who offers before-and-after testing to verify the cleanup's effectiveness, not just a generic cleaning service.
