Black ceiling corner mold: DIY bleach or call pro?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black speckles forming along the corner where the wall meets the ceiling in our master bedroom. It's on an interior wall, not near a window, but it's been incredibly humid lately even with the AC running constantly. I'm worried it's mold, but I don't know if this is something I can just wipe away with bleach myself or if I need to call a professional company to deal with it.

Black speckles in a ceiling corner during Dubai's humid season point to condensation mold, a very common issue here. The wall likely contains a cold bridge from the AC ducting, causing moisture to condense inside and feed mold growth. Bleach is not recommended—it only bleaches the surface, doesn't kill the roots, and its high water content can worsen the problem by adding moisture.
For a small patch (under one square foot), you can carefully clean it yourself. Use a dedicated EPA-approved mold cleaner or a vinegar solution. Wear an N95 mask and gloves. However, this only addresses the visible growth. The underlying cause—the condensation point—will remain, and the mold will almost certainly return unless the humidity and temperature differential are resolved. Given its location on an interior wall, a professional inspection is strongly advised. They use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to identify the exact source of the condensation within the wall cavity, which is not visible to you. Dubai's high ambient humidity means this issue will persist without a proper diagnosis and targeted remediation, which often involves improving insulation around cold spots and addressing room humidity levels. A reputable company will provide a clear diagnosis and a plan to prevent recurrence, not just wipe it away. |
