Should I remove this recurring black mold myself or call a pro?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our bedroom closet has been leaking a little for a while, and now I’ve found black fuzzy mold spreading on the back wall and on some of our shoes. I wiped it with vinegar but it came back even darker a few days later. Is this something I can tackle myself with a stronger cleaner, or do I need to call in a professional mold remediation company?

Given the recurring growth and the AC leak source, this requires professional remediation. Vinegar is ineffective against many mold types and can worsen porous materials like drywall and leather shoes. The dark recurrence suggests deep penetration.

In Dubai's high humidity, mold spreads rapidly through airborne spores whenever the AC cycles on. A pro will first fix the leak—often a clogged drain line or faulty installation common here. They then contain the area to prevent spores spreading, remove contaminated porous materials like affected drywall or shoes, and use HEPA-filtered air scrubbers.

DIY attempts with stronger chemicals like bleach are hazardous in enclosed spaces and don't address the root moisture or hidden growth. For a confirmed leak and structural spread, Dubai Municipality's public health regulations advise certified remediation to ensure occupant safety and prevent property damage.

Request a company that provides a moisture map, airborne spore count data from their lab, and a post-remediation verification report. This confirms the issue is resolved, not just surface-cleaned.
