What's the best product to remove shower grout mold?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed these dark black spots growing in the grout between the tiles in our master bathroom shower. It's been incredibly humid the last few weeks and I think the ventilation fan might not be strong enough. What's the most effective and safe product I can buy locally to get rid of it for good?

Bathroom grout mold in Dubai is common due to the high ambient humidity, especially during summer months. For surface-level black spots, a simple and effective local solution is a chlorine-based bathroom cleaner, like Clorox or a generic bleach spray. Apply it directly to the dry grout, let it sit for 10-15 minutes to penetrate, then scrub with a stiff brush and rinse thoroughly.

However, these products only address the visible surface mold, not the root cause. The persistent humidity and inadequate ventilation allow mold to regrow, often within weeks. For a longer-term solution, improving airflow is critical. Run your bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower and consider installing a more powerful unit if condensation still forms on mirrors and walls. Wiping down wet surfaces after use also helps significantly.

If the mold returns quickly, appears in large patches, or has a musty odor, the issue may be deeper within the wall or behind the tiles. In such cases, DIY cleaning is a temporary fix. Professional inspection is advised to identify hidden moisture sources and assess the full extent, as improper handling can disperse harmful spores. A qualified inspector can perform moisture mapping and air quality tests to provide a definitive solution.
