AC mold removal cost anf DIY advice for Jumeirah?« Back to Previous Page

The AC unit in our bedroom in Jumeirah has been leaking a bit and now we’ve found a patch of black mold on the wall behind the wardrobe. It’s been getting worse over the last couple of weeks, especially with the humidity. I'm worried about my allergies acting up. What’s the average cost for professional mold removal for a small area like this, and is it a complete DIY fail to try and handle it myself?

A small patch of mold from an AC leak can often be managed with careful DIY if the underlying moisture issue is fixed. The cost for professional remediation of a small area typically ranges between AED 750 to AED 1,500, but this is highly variable based on the extent of hidden growth and required wall repairs.

For a DIY attempt, first fix the AC leak completely. Wear an N95 mask, gloves, and safety glasses. Clean the visible mold on non-porous surfaces with a detergent solution. However, if the mold is on porous drywall or plaster, or has spread behind the wardrobe where you can't see, professional assessment is strongly recommended. The high humidity in Jumeirah causes mold to regrow quickly if not entirely eradicated.

The main risk with DIY is missing hidden contamination inside the wall cavity, which will continue to release spores and affect your allergies. A professional inspection with a moisture meter and borescope can confirm the full extent. For health reasons, especially with existing allergies, verifying the space is truly clean with post-remediation testing from an independent lab is the most reliable way to ensure the problem is resolved.
