Mold in Dubai wardrobe: DIY or professional removal?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the back wall of the wardrobe where we keep our winter clothes. It’s been especially humid lately and I’m worried it’s going to ruin everything in there. Is this something I can tackle myself with a spray from ACE, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company, and what would that kind of service roughly cost?

Black spots in a wardrobe are often due to condensation from high humidity, a common issue in Dubai, especially in enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces. For a small, surface-level patch (less than one square foot), a thorough DIY clean with a microfibre cloth and a solution like white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover from ACE can be effective.
However, since the mold is spreading on the wall behind the wardrobe, this suggests a more serious moisture issue, likely from condensation or a hidden leak in the wall. In Dubai's climate, simply cleaning the surface without addressing the underlying humidity source means it will almost certainly return. For a case like this, a professional inspection is strongly recommended to identify the root cause—whether it's insufficient ventilation, a thermal bridge causing condensation, or something else. A proper remediation service involves containment to prevent spores spreading, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial application, and most crucially, identifying and rectifying the moisture source. They should also provide before-and-after testing to verify the space is truly clean. Without this, you risk the mold recurring and potentially affecting your health and belongings. The cost varies significantly based on the extent of the infestation and the required corrective actions, so an on-site assessment is necessary for an accurate scope and quote. |
