Professional needed for recurring bathroom mold in JVC?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed that the grout between the tiles in our master bathroom shower is turning black, and there's a small patch of fuzzy mold in the corner of the ceiling. I've tried a bleach spray but it comes back within a couple of weeks, especially now with the humidity. For a standard bathroom in a Jumeirah Village Circle apartment, is this something I should just keep treating myself, or is it worth hiring a professional to get rid of it for good, and what would the estimated cost be?

Recurring mold in a JVC bathroom is extremely common due to the high humidity and constant AC use creating condensation. Bleach only removes surface discoloration but doesn't address the moisture source or kill the root structure, which is why it returns.

For the black grout, a professional assessment can determine if the waterproofing behind the tiles is compromised, a frequent issue in apartments. The ceiling patch suggests elevated humidity is settling there. Effective remediation involves identifying and correcting the moisture source, removing the contaminated material (grout, caulking, drywall), and treating the area with specialized antimicrobials.

Given the recurrence despite your efforts, a professional inspection is warranted. They can use moisture meters and thermal cameras to find hidden dampness you can't see. For a standard JVC bathroom, the focus should be on a permanent fix, not a temporary clean. Look for providers who offer a warranty on their work and can provide before-and-after lab testing to verify the mold spore count has been reduced to safe levels. This is a science-driven process, not just a deep clean.
