Is this wardrobe mold and what's removal cost in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

Our bedroom wardrobe on the outside wall has these black speckles that just appeared over the last couple of weeks. I’m worried it’s mold, especially with all the humidity lately, and I’m not sure if it’s something I can just clean with bleach myself or if I need to call one of those mold removal companies. What’s the typical cost range for a professional to assess and treat a small area like this in a Dubai apartment?

Black speckles appearing on an outside wall wardrobe during humid periods are very likely mold. The recent high humidity combined with the temperature difference between the air-conditioned room and the warm exterior wall creates a perfect environment for condensation, which leads to mold growth.
For a small, contained area, a DIY approach can sometimes be sufficient. A solution of white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover (not bleach, as it only removes the colour and can worsen the problem by adding moisture) can be used. However, this only addresses the visible surface mold. The underlying moisture issue in the wall remains, so the mold will almost certainly return. Professional assessment is recommended to determine the extent of the moisture problem within the wall cavity. In Dubai, treatment costs are highly variable and depend on the remediation company's methodology and the severity of the infestation. For a small wardrobe area, you might encounter a wide range. Some companies charge a flat assessment fee with separate remediation costs, while others bundle it. The critical factor is their process: proper remediation involves containment, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial application, and addressing the moisture source to prevent recurrence. Always request a detailed scope of work and ensure they provide before-and-after testing to verify the results, which is a standard practice for science-driven companies with their own microbiology labs. |
