How to clean bathroom mold and prevent it permanently?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots growing along the ceiling and in the corners of our bathroom in JVC. It’s been super humid lately and I guess our exhaust fan isn’t strong enough. What's the most effective way to clean this off and stop it from coming back for good?

Bathroom mold in Dubai is primarily due to high humidity and insufficient ventilation, especially during humid summer months. For small, surface-level black spots, a solution of white vinegar or a diluted bleach mixture (1 part bleach to 10 parts water) can be effective. Apply, let sit for 10-15 minutes, then scrub and dry the area thoroughly. Always wear gloves and ensure the room is well-ventilated during cleaning.
To prevent it from returning, you must address the moisture source. Run your exhaust fan for at least 30-60 minutes after every shower. If it's weak, consider upgrading to a higher-capacity model, which is a common necessity in Dubai villas and apartments. Wiping down wet surfaces like tiles and shower walls immediately after use removes standing water. For persistent humidity issues, a small dehumidifier can make a significant difference. Permanent prevention often requires checking for and remedying hidden issues. Mold on the ceiling can indicate a leak from the unit above or condensation within the AC ductwork serving your bathroom. If the mold covers a large area (over one square meter), returns aggressively after cleaning, or you detect a musty odor, a professional inspection is recommended to identify hidden moisture and the mold species. Certified remediation, followed by corrective measures like improving ventilation, is the only way to achieve a long-term solution in the UAE's challenging climate. |
