DIY mold removal or call a pro for Jumeirah villa?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived in our villa in Jumeirah for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots growing along the bottom of the wall in our main bedroom. The AC unit is on that wall and it's been working overtime with all the humidity lately. Is this something I can handle myself with bleach, or do I absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

The black spots along your AC wall in Jumeirah are a classic sign of condensation-related mold, extremely common here due to our high humidity and constant AC use. For a small patch under 1 square meter, a DIY approach with a vinegar solution (more effective than bleach on porous surfaces like drywall) can be attempted, but only if the source of moisture is fixed first.

However, given the location directly under the AC unit, this suggests a persistent moisture issue—likely from a clogged condensate drain line or poor insulation causing cold bridging. Without resolving this, the mold will return. For anything larger than a small, isolated patch, or if the wall feels damp, professional assessment is strongly recommended to prevent structural damage and potential health effects from airborne spores.

A proper remediation process in Dubai involves containment to prevent cross-contamination, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial application, and most critically, identifying and rectifying the moisture source. Reputable companies provide before-and-after testing from an accredited lab to verify the spore count has been returned to safe levels, which is a verifiable result you can trust.
