Mold in Dubai villa closet: DIY clean or hire professional?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom closet in our Jumeirah villa has had this damp, earthy smell since the humidity really kicked in a few weeks ago. I finally pulled everything out and found a bunch of black and green fuzzy patches on the back wall and on some of our leather bags. I’m worried about our health and ruining more of our stuff. For a job like this, should I just try to clean it myself with bleach or is it worth getting a professional mold remediation company in Dubai, and what would that likely cost?

For a significant growth like you're describing on the wall and personal items, professional remediation is strongly advised. The Dubai climate, with its extreme humidity and constant AC use, creates ideal conditions for mold to penetrate porous materials like drywall and leather, which simple surface cleaning cannot address.

DIY bleach cleaning is a temporary fix on non-porous surfaces and can worsen the problem on drywall by adding moisture. It also fails to identify the root cause—likely a combination of high ambient humidity and a potential minor condensation leak from an AC duct or pipe chase in the wall. A proper remediation involves containing the area to prevent spore spread, safely removing contaminated materials like the affected drywall, HEPA vacuuming, and applying antimicrobial treatments.

For health and property protection, start with a professional inspection. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to find the water source. Remediation cost is driven by the area's size and contamination level, but expect an investment for proper containment and removal. Always request a post-remediation verification test from an independent lab to confirm the space is truly clean and safe. This is the only way to protect your health and prevent it from returning.
