Should I call building management for mold or inspect myself?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind all the clothes. It’s an interior wall and with all the humidity lately, I’m really worried it’s spread further inside. What’s the best way to handle this in Dubai—should I call the building management first or get a professional mold inspection myself?

Start with your building management. In Dubai, landlords and property managers are generally responsible for addressing structural issues leading to mold, such as leaking pipes or faulty external waterproofing. Document the issue with photos and formally notify them; they are often obligated to investigate and fix the source.
Concurrently, you should arrange for a professional inspection yourself. The humidity and constant AC use create perfect conditions for mold to thrive inside wall cavities, which building maintenance may not fully assess. A certified inspector can conduct moisture mapping and air quality tests to determine the full extent of the contamination, which is often far greater than what’s visible. For a closet on an interior wall, the cause is likely condensation from the AC or a hidden plumbing leak. Do not attempt to clean it yourself with bleach, as this can aggravate spores and doesn't address the moisture source. A proper remediation plan requires identifying the species and containing the area to prevent spreading spores throughout your home during cleanup. |
