How to find and fix hidden moisture causing mold?« Back to Previous Page

Our villa in Jumeirah Park has been feeling really humid lately, and we just spotted some black speckles in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. It’s an interior wall, and I’m worried it’s spreading behind the shelves. What is the best way to find the source of the moisture and get a proper inspection done to make sure it’s completely eliminated?

For interior wall mold like in your closet, the moisture source is often condensation from an AC supply line or diffuser in the ceiling/void above, especially in Dubai's climate where AC runs constantly. A small thermal imaging camera can identify these cold spots and hidden dampness without invasive demolition.
Professional inspection is advised here, as the mold may be spreading within the wall cavity. A proper assessment includes moisture mapping with a thermo-hygrometer and borescope cameras to view inside walls, identifying the exact condensation point or possible plumbing leak. They should also check the room's relative humidity; in villas, levels above 60% significantly increase mold risk. For remediation, simply wiping visible mold won't solve a hidden moisture problem. The source must be addressed first—often by insulating the cold AC duct or pipe. Any moldy drywall or insulation behind the shelves likely needs removal and replacement. Afterwards, a dehumidifier or ensuring your AC is adequately dehumidifying can prevent recurrence. Verifying the fix with post-remediation moisture readings is the only way to confirm it's truly resolved. |
